Location: Davenport, IA
Four blocks from downtown, the eight-acre Centennial Park is easily accessible by foot, bicycle or automobile. The centennial pavilion serves as the restroom/ concession venue for the existing adjacent skate park, as well as future walking paths and basketball courts. The park is adjacent to US Highway 67, a main artery running north/south along the river. A considerable amount of public participation took place as the city conducted workshops to solicit public input. The pavilion is a seasonal facility. As a result, a great deal of translucent material was used to allow diffused sunlight into the building in lieu of using artificial lighting. Perimeter walls are poured-in-place concrete. Outdoor seating areas are permeable pavers.
